 HOURS / AGES:

  1. e are open Monday – Friday from 6:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. for infants (beginning with 2 weeks old) through Kindergarten, plus an afternoon daycare program for children in kindergarten through 5th grade from several local elementary schools.  Summer programs and daycare are offered for the same age ranges as well.  We are closed for major holidays, as well as from Christmas Eve through New Year’s Day.  English is our primary language, although a number of our staff are bi-lingual in Spanish and English.  This year has brought children from eight (8) different countries who came to us speaking their native languages and little, if any English, to Peace.

INFANTS:

ur infant room provides a nurturing environment for up to 10 children from as young as 2 weeks until they are approximately 9 – 10 months old.  They then move to our “Transition Room” where they can take advantage of their newly found mobility until they are approximately 18 months old.  Daily reports are sent home documenting feedings, naps, diaper changes, and other pertinent information.  Parents are asked to provide diapers, wipes, foods & beverages, blankets and extra clothing.

PRESCHOOL CLASSES:

orning classes are from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. for Toddlers (ages 18 months – young twos), Nursery School (ages 2 – 3), Preschool (ages 3-4), and Pre-kindergarten (ages 4-5).  If your child is younger than Pre-kindergarten, you may choose to have your child attend two days per week (Tuesdays-Thursdays), three days per week (Mondays-Wednesdays-Fridays), or Monday through Friday.  Pre-kindergarten is a five day per week program.

KINDERGARTEN:

indergarten (ages 5-6 - we use the same age criteria for kindergarten as the El Paso Independent School District uses) is a half day program from 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Language, Reading, Math, Social Studies and Science are all integrated into the active, theme and center-based curriculum.  Music is an important part of the learning process.  Lunch is a part of the day, and serves as a valuable tool for teaching manners and good eating habits.  The small class size provides the opportunity for individual attention on a regular basis.  All requirements of public kindergarten and entry into first grade in the Texas system are generously met.

GENERAL CLASS INFORMATION:

ur classes typically have up to 16 children in each class, with a teacher and assistant leading them.  We use a theme and center based curriculum, which includes language, math, social studies, science and fine arts components.  While our curriculum is not faith based, we do emphasize Christian values throughout the school, including saying grace before snacks and meals, singing Christian as well as secular songs, having weekly chapel and an annual Christmas program.  Pastor Wayne Kendrick from Peace Lutheran Church visits each class on Wednesday mornings for chapel with a Bible story and song.

ach morning’s class is structured to include 30 minutes on the playground, weather permitting, and a snack (each child brings snack approximately once per month for the class).  Those staying for afternoon daycare will also have the opportunity for playground time and a snack.

MEALS:

reakfast is not served at Peace; however, if your child arrives early (before 7:30 a.m.) and brings breakfast, we will provide the opportunity for him/her to eat.  Lunchtime is 11:30 a.m. each day.  Children staying for lunch may bring their own lunch or purchase a lunch.   We do have a commercial kitchen, and offer a well-balanced meal each day at a reasonable price.  Friday is generally pizza day.

DAYCARE:

eyond the scheduled class time, we are open for daycare from 6:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. and again from 11:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.  Early morning is generally gathering time.  Lunchtime is from 11:30 a.m. – noon each day.  A naptime is offered to all children from noon – 2:00 p.m. each day (mandatory for our younger preschoolers).  The older children who are not napping have a quiet hour each day from noon until 1:00 p.m.  Afternoon snacks and playground time are offered by age group each day.  Afternoon playtime does not follow a planned curriculum, but does included guided activities.

BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL CARE FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN:

e offer before and after-school care for elementary school children attending a limited number of local elementary schools.  Currently that includes Polk, Tippen and Kohlberg Elementary schools.  We transport children to school in the morning, departing Peace at approximately 7:45 a.m.  We pick those needing afternoon daycare to our facility when school is over (including early release days).  A snack is provided when the children arrive.  Outside play is generally offered.  Homework can be done, as well as guided activities and play.

SUMMER PROGRAMS:

e offer a curriculum-based summer program for children through elementary school (those entering 5th grade are our oldest).  Mornings from 8:30 – 11:30 are the programmed time, similar to the school year, with daycare offered the balance of the day.  Academics are not the focus of the summer program, although planned activities will keep learning an active part of your child’s experience.  Elementary school aged children will have field trips included as part of their program.  Due to the stringent state laws for transporting children younger than five years old, children younger than elementary school age will not be going on field trips.  We try to bring special visitors to the school instead.  Swimming will NOT be a part of our program.
